California produces 60% of US Roses, but most of the Roses sold on Valentine's Day in the US are imported from South America. While the state of California is still the top producer of cut flowers in the US, with Florida second for flowers and plants, despite its long history of producing quality fresh flowers many domestic growers are struggling to keep up with the foreign competition. Imports dominate today's flower market, sometimes accounting for 90% or more of all US sales within a particular category. It means an increased supply of beautiful fresh flowers from around the world year-round.
