It’s still unknown why Stonehenge was built or by who but one thing that has been confirmed is how long the monument has been around. According to an archaeological analysis of the site, Stonehenge is 5000 years old, making it a cool 500 years older than the Pyramids of Giza. Though it’s now one of the most popular public destinations in the UK, Stonehenge was actually private property until the 20th century. Bought by local man Cecil Chubb as a gift for his wife in 1915, the site was gifted to the nation by the couple just three years later in 1918. Since then, the site has been managed by the National Trust and English Heritage.
