The Farmers’ Almanac states if you say “rabbit rabbit,” or its variation “bunny bunny,” before any other words on the first day of the month, superstition says you’ll have good luck for the next 30 days. The phrase is thought to have originated in the United Kingdom from Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland” book written in 1865, according to the Almanac, from its storyline “in which a young girl is ‘luckily’ guided by a white rabbit” in her adventures. The first recorded use of the phrase about good luck was in 1909, the Almanac said, in the English publication “Notes and Queries” from its March 27 edition. In the article, a father had said his children said, “Rabbit, rabbit,” up the chimney on the first day of every month “in the hopes of receiving a present.”
